100 years of Celebrating Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days with Fiesta
Fiesta is a week long event with all sorts of fun celebrations in honor of The Old Spanish Days. The official celebration kicked off in1924 to help celebrate the opening of the new Lobero Theatre. This year marks 100 years of Fiesta in Santa Barbara.
This Year, We Are Celebrating 100 Years of Fiesta
This years Fiesta events will kick off on Wednesday July 31 and run through Sunday August 4, 2024.
There are also pre fiesta events. Starting, Saturday July 13 at The Carriage museum, is hosting a Fiesta Fashion Sale. Fun fact, this event used to be called the Fiesta Costume Sale. To see the fiesta calendar with a full list of events, please take a look at the schedule HERE. And definitely note that some of the events are bound to change slightly.
El Mercado at De La Guerra Plaza will be up and running Wednesday July 31. There is food, shopping, more food, music and general fiesta chaos here. We love, love, love to catch some of the dancers doing their dances. There are dance shows all over town.
Remember, It does take a few days for De La Guerra Plaza to be set up, so the street will probably be closed. Don’t forget, because traffics sucks. And I will probably forget and drive us right into the traffic.
My kids and I are fans of all of the different confetti eggs that are for sale all over town. And have a fun tradition and cracking them over some of friends at Grassini’s head. This tradition has been going on for like 7 years now.
The cracking sequence looks a little something like this:
